Sakura Oda is a Japanese pop singer under Hello! Project. She is the sole 11th generation member since 2012 and sub-leader since 2023 of Morning Musume and a former member of Hello Pro Kenshuusei. She was first introduced at a fanclub event in November 2011 alongside Yamaga Kanae. She is also a member of the SATOYAMA Movement unit ODATOMO.

History[]

Early Life[]

Sakura Oda was born on March 12, 1999 in Zama, Kanagawa, Japan.

On November 12, at a Fan Club event, Oda Sakura was introduced as a new member of Hello Pro Egg, alongside Yamaga Kanae, after failing the S/mileage second generation auditions.

2012[]

In January and February, Sakura participated in the Hello! Project 2012 WINTER Hello☆Pro Tengoku concerts (Funky-chan and Rock-chan) as a background dancer.

On September 14, Sakura Oda was announced as the winner of Morning Musume 11th Generation ~Suppin Utahime~ Audition. Sakura started her official Morning Musume duties in January 2013 at the Hello! Project 2013 Winter Concert, after Morning Musume's 15th Anniversary Concert Tour.

On December 14, Sakura's Morning Musume member color was revealed to be Lavender.

2013[]

On April 11, Oda officially started blogging in the 10th Generation Members' blog.

On May 23, Oda began a solo web talk show exclusive to fanclub members, titled Sakura Sakuradio.

On August 22, Sakura had her own solo fan club event titled ~Sakura no Shirabe~.

On November 14, she had another solo fan club event titled ~Sakura no Shirabe 2~.

2014[]

On March 13, she had a birthday event to celebrate her 15 years called Oda Sakura Birthday Event 2014 ~Sakura no Shirabe 3~. It had two performances at the Tokyo FM Hall. The same day, it was announced that Sakura would be a member of a newly formed SATOYAMA movement unit called ODATOMO.

In June, Sakura participated in her first ever stage play called "LILIUM -Lilium Shoujo Junketsu Kageki-" as the character Sylvatica in June. Her solo performance was the opening musical act for the play.

On July 5, Sakura had a fan club even called "Sakura's no Shirabe 3.5". In this event she challenged herself by singing more difficult songs outside of Hello! Project, including a partial English cover of "Let it Go".

2015[]

On February 19, Oda's fanclub-exclusive web talk show Sakura Sakuradio ended with a total of 90 episodes.

In addition to Morning Musume '15 providing the theme song "Ima Koko Kara" for the Pretty Cure All Stars Haru no Carnival♪ movie released in theaters on March 14, three exclusive characters were voiced by Iikubo Haruna, Ishida Ayumi, and Oda. Their appearances were based on illustrations by Iikubo, with Oda's character (also named Sakura) being an owl wearing a cherry blossom.

On March 16, Oda celebrated her 16th birthday at an event titled Morning Musume '15 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 4~. It had two shows at TOKYO FM HALL and part of the setlist featured her singing to live piano arrangements.

2016[]

On March 22, Oda celebrated her 17th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '16 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 5~, which featured two shows at CLUB CITTA' in her home prefecture Kanagawa.

On April 18, Oda announced her first solo photobook, titled Sakura Moyou. It was published on May 27, and a Blu-ray featuring the making of the photobook, titled Behind of Photobook ~Sakura Moyou~, was released on November 29.

2017[]

On March 29, Oda celebrated her 18th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '17 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 6~ at Differ Ariake.

On October 16, Oda announced she would release her second solo photobook on November 17, titled Sakura Breeze.

On December 27, she released her first solo image Blu-ray, Sakura in Guam.

2018[]

On March 28, Oda celebrated her 19th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '18 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 7~, featuring one show at Differ Ariake.

On August 16, the music video for Horiuchi Takao's August 22 single "Minna Shounen Datta" was uploaded on YouTube, featuring Oda, fellow Morning Musume Member Mizuki Fukumura, ANGERME Leader Wada Ayaka, ANGERME Member Kamikokuyo Moe, Juice=Juice Leader Miyazaki Yuka, Juice=Juice member Miyamoto Karin and Juice=Juice member Uemura Akari who all sing as chorus.

2019[]

On March 12, Oda released her third solo photobook, titled Sakura no Kisetsu.[10]

On March 28, Oda celebrated her 20th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '19 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 8~, featuring two shows at Shinagawa Stellar Ball.

On July 10, it was announced that Oda was diagnosed with cervical degenerative disc disease by the doctor, after she experienced severe pain around her left shoulder blade the day before. Due to it requiring one month of treatment, Oda was absent from the Hello! Project 2019 SUMMER concert tour from July 13 to August 3, as well as a "Jinsei Blues / Seishun Night" release event on July 15. 

She made her return on August 10 in Morning Musume '19's show at rockin'on presents ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2019.

On October 5, the Hello Tsu PHOTOBOOK① was released, including Oda's gravure that was originally published in a October 2018 issue of Weekly Famitsu.

2020[]

On March 23, she was set to celebrate her 21st birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '20 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 9~ at Mielparque Hall. However on March 11, 2020, it was announced that the event was cancelled in consideration of a new policy established by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The event was eventually rescheduled for July 28.

On April 20, she released her fourth photobook, SAKURA COLOR.

2021[]

On March 15, Oda celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '21 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 10~, featuring two shows at Mielparque Hall.

On August 19, it was announced that Oda was diagnosed through medical examination with functional dysphonia, brought on via stress. Due to this, she would limit her vocal performance in the remaining Hello! Project 2021 Summer Sapphire & Ruby tour dates while undergoing medical treatment.

2022[]

On March 12, Oda released her fifth photobook, Sakura Biyori.

On March 11, Oda celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '22 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 11~, featuring two shows at Sagami Women's University Green Hall.

On July 29, it was announced that Sakura Oda had been diagnosed with COVID-19. She took a PCR test which had suspected positive results on July 28, and later took another PCR test which had a positive result. She currently has no symptoms, and will focus on treatment under the guidance of local governments and public health centers. As result, the July 30 concert of the Hello! Project 2022 Summer CITY CIRCUIT Morning Musume '22 CONCERT TOUR ~Never Been Better! Encore~ in Miyagi was cancelled.

On November 8, Oda Sakura held a solo fanclub event titled Morning Musume '22 Oda Sakura Kanyu 10 Shunen Kinen FC Event ~Oda-chan to Yukaina Musume -Tachi~, which featured two shows at Chiba Prefectural Cultural Hall.

2023[]

On March 12, Oda released her fifth photobook, Sakura Biyori.

On March 23, Oda celebrated her 24th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '23 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 12~, featuring two shows at Sagami Women's University Green Hall.

On April 3, Oda Sakura appeared in a new CM campaign for KFC Japan's Garlic Hot Chicken. She had previously written blogs about her love of KFC, especially the hot chicken series and had even made a video talking about KFC. Staff of the broadcasting station had seen the content and had reached out to her about appearing in the CM.

On July 18, she released her first photo essay book, Sakura to Neko.

On November 25, it was announced at the end of Morning Musume '23 Concert Tour Aki "Neverending Shine Show" that she would become the new sub-leader of the group while Erina Ikuta would become the new leader as Ayumi Ishida would remain sub-leader after Mizuki Fukumura's graduation.

On December 7, she took part in Hello! Project 25 Shunnen Kinen Special FC Event Vol.3 alongside Akane Haga, Reina Yokoyama, Layla Ise, Rin Kawana, Kisora Niinuma, Yuhane Yamazaki, Madoka Saito and Roko Tsutsui at Yamano Hall. This event covered the 2011-2016 era of Hello! Project's history.

2024[]

On March 21, she celebrated her 25th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '24 Oda Sakura Birthday Event ~Sakura no Shirabe 13~, featuring two shows at Ota Ward Residents Hall Aprico Hall.
