Mizuki Fukumura is a Japanese pop singer under Hello! Project. She is a ninth generation member and current leader of Morning Musume. Prior to joining Morning Musume, she was a fourth generation member of Hello Pro Egg. She is also the adoptive mother for Monster House.
On November 29 2023, Mizuki Fukumura graduated from Morning Musume and Hello! Project after the last concert of Morning Musume '23 Concert Tour Aki "Neverending Shine Show ~Sanctuary~" Fukumura Mizuki Sotsugyou Special in Yokohama Arena, They will deeply miss her. She also passed her leadership of Morning Musume and Hello! Project to Erina Ikuta when she graduated. As of 2023, she was the longest-serving leader.
History[]
Early Life[]
Fukumura Mizuki was born on October 30, 1996 in Tokyo, Japan.
Mizuki participated in the “Kirarin ☆ Girl Contest 2006,″ and came in second place.
In hopes of becoming a member of Morning Musume, Fukumura successfully auditioned for Hello Pro Egg. She was introduced as a member of Hello Pro Egg at the 2008 Hello! Project Shinjin Kouen 6gatsu ~Akasaka Hop!~ concert, alongside Kaneko Rie and Takeuchi Akari.
Fukumura was chosen to be part of the second generation for the group Shugo Chara Egg! as "Amulet Heart." Shugo Chara Egg! released "Watashi no Tamago." in which Fukumura was the lead singer.
2010-2011[]
Fukumura participated as a background dancer in two of Mano Erina's music videos, "Haru no Arashi" and "Onegai Dakara...". Fukumura also made her first live performance with Shugo Chara Egg! for the song "Arigatou ~Ookiku Kansha~". Afterwards, Shugo Chara Egg! disbanded.
Late in the year, Fukumura auditioned at the Morning Musume 9th Generation Audition. For the second round, she performed "Maji Bomber!!" by Berryz Koubou. She was then told by Tsunku that she failed the third round.
On January 2, Fukumura joined Morning Musume as a ninth generation member along with Erina Ikuta, Riho Sayashi and Kanon Suzuki at the Hello! Project 2011 Winter ~Kangei Shinsen Matsuri~ A gana Live concert. Tsunku had kept it a surprise that Fukumura had actually passed the 9th generation audition. When he called Fukumura's name, she began to cry because her dream of joining Morning Musume had come true. She also made her debut with Morning Musume the same day in the same concert.
On January 7, Fukumura completed her Hello Pro Egg training.
In March, Fukumura's first e-Hello! DVD, “Greeting ~Fukumura Mizuki~,", was announced. It was released on May 17th.
In April, Fukumura made her single debut in Morning Musume with the release of "Maji Desu ka Ska!".
Fukumura starred in a stage play titled Reborn ~Inochi no Audition~, along with Risa Niigaki, Reina Tanaka, the other 9th Generation members, and Haruka Kudo.
2012[]
On January 13, the Morning Musume 9th generation and 10th generation members began a web talk show exclusive to fanclub members, titled Honki DE Hichou!. They also began a radio show on April 7, titled Morning Musume no Morning Jogakuin ~Houkago Meeting~, on Radio Nippon.
On April 18, it was announced that Reina Tanaka and Morning Musume's 9th & 10th Generation members would star in a new stage play titled Stacey's Shoujo Saisatsu Kageki. The musical ran from June 6th through June 12th.
On May 13, an event for the 9th and 10th generation members of Morning Musume, as well as S/mileage’s 2nd generation members, titled Mosuma FC Event ~Gachi☆Kira~, was announced. Fukumura participated in the event on June 15th, June 18th, and June 20th at Yokohama Blitz. Fukumura was declared the winner of the Mosuma Fanclub Event.
In July, it was announced Fukumura would be in a photobook featuring the 9th and 10th generation.
In September, Fukumura and the other 9th and 10th generation members started to blog.
In October, it was announced that the ninth generation would be getting an Alo-Hello photobook.
In October and November, Fukumura attended the worldwide handshake events. She travelled to Thailand, Taiwan, France, and Korea with four other members of Morning Musume. She celebrated her 16th birthday in France.
On December 27, Fukumura's 2012 Alo-Hello Digital Photobook was released. Originally it was the best selling of the ninth and tenth generation, and the second behind Sayumi Michishige.
2013[]
On January 22, Fukumura's 2012 Alo-Hello photobook became the best selling photobook out of all the current Morning Musume members.
On February 21, she appeared on the front cover of Weekly Famitsu Taiwan, this was her first time appearing solo on a front cover of a magazine.
On March 27, it was revealed that Fukumura would be releasing her first solo DVD (excluding her e-Hello! DVD) and her first solo photobook. The photobook, titled MIZUKI, was released on May 15, while the DVD, titled MIZUKI in Guam, was released on May 22.
In May 16, Fukumura performed in the stage play, Gogakuyu, along with fellow Morning Musume members Riho Sayashi, Haruna Iikubo, Ayumi Ishida and Haruka Kudo.
On May 21, Tanaka Reina appointed Fukumura and Haruna Iikubo as the new sub-leaders of Morning Musume.[8]
Fukumura was the guest on Idol Hour Hello! Project on Enjoy Network Japan for the first two weeks of August.
On October 30, Fukumura Mizuki and Haruka Kudo had a joint 2013 birthday event. The special event was called Mizuki Fukumura & Haruka KudoBirthday Event 2013, the event featured one performance in Tokyo.
2014[]
On January 7, Fukumura made a gravure appearance in Young Gangan, she was also the cover girl. A making of DVD for the magazine issue was released on March 20 with Young Gangan's vol. 7 issue.
On March 1, the official Morning Musume twitter account tweeted that she would be absent from upcoming events due to influenza.
On March 27, Fukumura's second solo DVD, Pancake, was announced through online store websites. It was set to be released on June 11.
On April 18, Fukumura made a gravure appearance in Young Gangan (vol. 09), she was also the cover girl. A making of DVD for the magazine issue was released on May 16 with Young Gangan's vol. 11 issue.
On April 22, it was revealed that her solo DVD, Pancake, had been postponed. It was now set to be released on August 6.
On May 15, her second solo photobook, Utakata, was announced. It was released on June 25.
On October 30, Fukumura celebrated her 18th birthday. The special event was called Morning Musume '14 ~Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event 2014~, the event featured one performance in Tokyo at Yamano Hall.
On November 23, Fukumura was appointed as the new leader of Morning Musume by Sayumi Michishige. It was publicly announced on November 26, 2014 during the fall tour finale.
2015[]
On March 20, Fukumura made a gravure appearance in Young Gangan and was also the cover girl. The magazine issue included a mini photobook to commemorate her high school graduation, which included new photographs, as well as unreleased photographs from previous photoshoots with the magazine. The making of DVD for the magazine issue released on May 15.
On August 21, Fukumura made another gravure appearance in Young Gangan and was also the cover girl. The magazine issue included a clearfile of Fukumura. The following month, on September 18, she was again featured in the magazine as the cover girl and the issue included a "bath" poster.
On October 30, Fukumura celebrated her 19th birthday at a special two-day joint event with Kudo Haruka called Morning Musume '15 Fukumura Mizuki & Kudo Haruka Birthday Event ~FukuDuu Birthday Party!~. At her birthday event, she announced her third solo photobook, Kagayaki, which would be released on December 5.
On December 4, she was featured in the "YG Bishoujo Santa Collection 2015" edition of Young Gangan.
2016[]
On January 20, Fukumura released her first solo image Blu-ray, Yuubae.
On May 6, Fukumura made a gravure appearance and was the cover girl for Young Gangan. The magazine issue included a mini photobook.
In UTB vol. 34 released on October 8, Fukumura made a gravure appearance and it was announced that she'd be starting a "short-term gravure serialization" with the magazine.
On November 2, Fukumura celebrated her 20th birthday at a special event called Morning Musume '16 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event, which featured one performance at Differ Ariake.
On November 24, Fukumura and Ishida Ayumi annnounced they would hold a joint fanclub bus tour the next year on January 26 and 27, titled Morning Days Happy Holiday Fukumura Mizuki・Ishida Ayumi Fanclub Tour in Yamanashi.
On December 31 at the Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2016 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~, it was announced that Wada Ayaka would succeed Yajima Maimi as the 6th leader of Hello! Project with Fukumura as the second ever sub-leader from 2017.
2017[]
On June 7, Fukumura announced that she would take over Yajima Maimi's radio show Yajima no Heya on the Hello! Project Mobile app, retitled Fukumura no Heya, beginning the following Wednesday. She also announced that she would release her fourth solo photobook, Hatachi, on July 15.
On October 30, Fukumura celebrated her 21st birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '17 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event at Differ Ariake.
2018[]
On August 16, the music video for Horiuchi Takao's August 22 single "Minna Shounen Datta" was uploaded on YouTube, featuring Fukumura, fellow Morning Musume member Sakura Oda, ANGERME Leader Wada Ayaka, ANGERME Member Kamikokuyo Moe, Juice=Juice Leader Miyazaki Yuka, Juice=Juice member Miyamoto Karin and Juice=Juice Member Uemura Akari who all sing as chorus.
On October 30, Fukumura released her fifth solo photobook, titled Makana. Then that evening, she celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '18 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event at Zepp Tokyo.
On December 5, she released her second solo image Blu-ray, titled One day.
On December 31, during the first part of the Hello! Project 20th Anniversary!! Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2018 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~ concert, it was announced that Fukumura would become the next leader of Hello! Project after Ayaka Wada graduates.
2019[]
On March 27, Fukumura surpassed Ai Takahashi's record of 4 years, 3 months, and 28 days as the longest serving leader of Morning Musume.
On June 11, she opened an official Instagram account.
On July 25, she and ANGERME member Takeuchi Akari held a joint fanclub event titled Morning Musume '19 Fukumura Mizuki・ANGERME Takeuchi Akari FC Event, featuring two shows at NEW PIER HALL.
On October 30, she released her sixth solo photobook, titled Tasha!. Then later that evening she celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '19 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event, featuring two shows at Yamano Hall.
2020[]
On October 30, she celebrated her 24th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '20 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event with two shows at Mielparque Hall. In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.
On December 25, it was announced that Mizuki Fukumura and Reina Yokoyama had both come into contact with Haruna Iikubo, who had tested positive for COVID-19 a day prior, at a radio program. Fukumura and Yokoyama had both taken an antigen test and a PCR test, and were complying with quarantine measures as they awaited the results.
On December 27, it was announced that Fukumura and Yokoyama had both tested negative for COVID-19, but continued to individually quarantine at home as a precaution. Both of them showed no signs of symptoms, and were in good health. They later announced they would return to activities on December 30 after consulting with the health center.
2021[]
On January 22 to 29, she and Erina Ikuta held a joint fanclub event titled Morning Musume '21 Fukumura Mizuki・Ikuta Erina FC Event Shin Souseiki Fantasy DX ~10 Shunen wo Mukaete~, featuring four shows at Toysou PIT and Namba Hatch.
On April 16, the official Hello! Project website released a statement addressing malicious rumors spread online about Mizuki Fukumura, which falsely claimed that she had been secretly meeting with some fans and giving them preferential treatment. UP-FRONT PROMOTION conducted an investigation and proved that the rumors were completely false. The agency will be seeking appropriate action against the perpetrators, including having their fanclub membership revoked, and legal action in some cases. Fukumura Mizuki also revealed that she rarely goes out due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and that her work schedule made the rumors completely baseless.
On June 21, she released the song "Extra" digitally. The song is a cover of the 2020 song of same title released by KAN.
On July 30, it was announced that Fukumura would be temporarily halting her activities due to her being classified as a close contact by the public health center after one member of her family was confirmed to be diagnosed with COVID-19, therefore being absent from the July 31 concert of the Hello! Project 2021 Summer Sapphire & Ruby tour. Although there is nothing wrong with her physical condition, she would be refraining from her activities for the time being and would be monitored under the instructions of the public health center and medical institutions.
On August 6, it was announced that all Hello! Project members, managers, and tour staff had underwent PCR tests earlier in the week, and all of them had tested negative. As a result, the Hello! Project 2021 Summer Sapphire & Ruby show at Nakano Sun Plaza on August 8 would proceed as planned. Fukumura Mizuki had also once again tested negative for the virus, however, another member of her family was confirmed to be diagnosed with COVID-19. As a close contact, she would continue to be absent from activities through August. Although there is nothing wrong with her physical condition, she would be monitored under the instructions of the public health center and medical institutions.

2022[]
On January 25, it was reported that during an antigen test routine in the morning, Fukumura had tested positive for COVID-19. After the test result, she contacted the health center and underwent a PCR test at a designated hospital. Although the rest of the Morning Musume '22 members had tested negative for the virus, their appearance at the NHK's show Utacon, which the group was scheduled to appear in the same day, was cancelled, as well the last concert of Ogata Risa "bon voyage!" in COTTON CLUB, where Fukumura appeared as a special guest on January 24. On January 27, it was announced that Fukumura Mizuki still tested positive for COVID-19 by PCR test.
On June 23, she and ANGERME member Takeuchi Akari held a joint fanclub event titled Morning Musume '22 Fukumura Mizuki & ANGERME Takeuchi Akari FC Event Fukutake 14 Shunen ~H!P EGG We are No.1!~, featuring two shows at Kawaguchi Lilia Main Hall.
On November 2, she celebrated her 26th birthday at a fanclub event titled Morning Musume '22 Fukumura Mizuki Birthday Event with two shows at Culttz Kawasaki Hall.
On December 27, Mizuki announced her graduation from Morning Musume and Hello! Project. She is set to graduate from Morning Musume and Hello! Project after the group's upcoming fall concert tour in November 29, 2023. She was offered to graduate from the group in 2020 to pursue a new path individually, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was difficult to find the right timing and to make future plans, and with Hello! Project celebrating 25 years in 2023, she has expressed her wish to continue as a member until that time. After her graduation, she plans to continue her entertainment activities after a period of preparation.

On August 6 to 7, she and Erina Ikuta held a fanclub Bus Tour titled Morning Days Happy Holiday 9ki Member Fukumura Mizuki・Ikuta Erina Fanclub Bus Tour in Gunma.

On November 29, she officially graduated from Morning Musume and Hello!
